Mildred Stevenson Corbett, 87, met her Lord and Savior on November 7, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on February 20, 1937 in Neeses, SC, the youngest of 8 children to Corrie Brown and Clarence Elzie Stevenson.
She met the love of her life, Gene Tunney Corbett, and they married on June 5, 1955. They enjoyed 58 ½ years together until his death. After her marriage, she graduated from Draughon’s Business College and worked for the SC Tax Commission until the first of their three children were born. After all three children were in school, Mildred attended and graduated from both Baptist Hospital’s Nursing Program and Midland’s Technical College Respiratory Therapy Program.
She was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and an active member of State Street Baptist Church for over 60 years, and most recently, a member of Broad Acres Baptist Church.
She was predeceased by her parents; brothers, Henry Clay (Mary Alice), Paul Connor (Betty), and Fulton; and sisters, Evelyn, Duease, Mabel (Bock) and Mary Ellen.
Mildred is survived by her children, George Corbett, Jack and Patrice O’Neal, and Jack and Renee DeBruhl; her beloved grandchildren, Connor Corbett, Caroline and Ivo Mästinger, Corrie and Phillip Westbrook, John Leaman DeBruhl, Jr., and Melissa and Marcas Houtchings. She was thrilled to be GiGi to Pierce and Collins Westbrook, Faye and Kai Mästinger, and Hannah and Harper Houtchings. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their profound appreciation to Dr. John Lazaro and his staff for years of compassionate care of their mother.
As per her wishes, Mildred’s body was donated to the USC School of Medicine to enable others to learn.
