Mr. Donald became family to the McFarlands when his grandson married our daughter. We are so sorry that the family has to grapple with his loss. We so enjoyed coming to know and appreciate him! All our love and support to Mrs. Christa, Danny, Elke, and Brantley. Our Madison couldn’t have been more fortunate in her marriage, to have gained another Grandfather to love.

We are so sorry to hear of Don's passing. We know it is a great loss to you all. At least take some comfort in knowing that he is no longer suffering. May he rest in peace.

I met Donald 30 years ago when I became a Police Officer with the S.C. Department of Mental Health Public Safety. He was the Department Investigator and would come by my district and we talked.....alot, Don loves to talk. He encouraged me to further my career. Even when I left and went to Columbia Police Department, we talked and enjoyed Fraternal Order of Police Meetings Dinners. He was a Good guy and a Good Cop. 

I was introduced to Don in the 80's when  he came to work at the Central District. He was promoted to Investigator, was fixing to go to the SCCJA to investigation School.  
I was the one that gave him Firearms training , Trust me, Don did not need them. with 27 years carring a side arm with the CID, he already was safe and accurate. As for memories with Don. way to many to even talk about. Our Offices were next to one another. We went to lunch together. shopping together etc. He was a grate friend.  “We always thought we’d look back on our tears and laugh, but we never thought we’d look back on our laughter and cry.”
Rest in Peace My Friend and My Brother in Blue. 

I had the  pleasure of working with him  at the Department of Mental Health  for several years. He was a good man. I know he will be missed by his family.  May God bless them and give them comfort.
