LEESVILLE – Funeral services for Charles Renson Adkins, Jr., 86, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, with interment to follow in Congaree Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 26, 2017 at the chapel. Memorials may be made to the American Legion Post 174, 801 Piney Woods Rd., Columbia, SC 29210 or Cayce Moose Lodge, 1541 Old Dunbar Rd., West Columbia, SC 29172.
Mr. Adkins was born July 7, 1931 in Richland County, SC, and passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2017. He was a son of the late Martha Shumpert and Rev. Charles Rance Adkins, Sr. He was a U.S. Army veteran, enlisting at the age of 18 and serving from 1949-1952, during the Korean War. Mr. Adkins worked as a brick mason. He was a member of the American Legion Post 174, American Legion Motorcycle Association, VFW Post 174, Cayce Moose Lodge Post 462, Red Man Haymaker in PA and a life member with AMA, also in PA.
Mr. Adkins is survived by his children, Emery, Teresa, Charlene and Charlie Adkins III, Louise Goodwin; grandchildren, Daniel and Amber Leaphart and Eric Charles Adkins, Tia and Ari Davenport, Nick Fause, Billy Dowd, Jr., Michele Dowd, A. J. William; great-grandchildren, Tegan, Tal, Liam, Angel, Serenity, Bella, Katie, T.J., Alley, Marly and Casey; brother, Wilbur Adkins; sister, Ruby Bickley and niece, Mary Jane Adkins Pearly. He was predeceased by his wife, Shirley; granddaughter, Ashley Brittner; great-granddaughter, Kayla Hutto; brothers, Hubert, Poley and Cecil Adkins; sisters, Lucille White and Jeanette Shotte; three step-brothers and one step-sister.
