LEXINGTON – Funeral services for Bobby A. Gilliam, 84, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with interment in Newberry Memorial Gardens. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers are Brian, Ben and Bobby Cole Yarborough, Cody Hawkins, Carter Harmon and Peter Burke and Willard Byrd. Honorary Pallbearers will be, David Zobel, Billy and Robert Young and Billy and Al Armfield. Mr. Gilliam was born September 28, 1932 in Newberry, SC to the late Ora Lee and Lonnie B. Gilliam and passed away Sunday, December 18, 2016. He received a Master’s Degree from the University of S.C. Bobby was an Eagle Scout. He attended Newberry College and graduated in 1954. He also attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA, where he wrote sheet music with Quincy Jones. He played the saxophone for the Charlie Pruitt Band, O’Neal Clamp Band and others during the 1950’s and 1960’s. Mr. Gilliam was a Band Director at Blackville Schools, York County Schools, Denmark Olar Schools and Lexington School, District1 and was in the National Guard #246 Army Band. Mr. Gilliam took Lexington High School to its first State Band Championship. He retired as Band Director in 1967. He worked for 3M McDonald Company as Sales Manager where he was recognized by the National President's Club for highest performing salesman. He founded Palmetto Microfilm Systems, Inc. in 1976 to present and was a founding member of National Organization IIMDA (Independent Information Management Dealers Association). He was one of Canon’s top ten dealers nationwide for over 15 years. He was also a member of Lexington Lions' Club, Leukemia Society Man of the Year. His greatest love was his wife of 59 years, his four daughters and eight grandchildren. Bobby was generous with his family and equally philanthropic in the community. He supported numerous charitable organizations, many without acknowledgement. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in honor of Bob Gilliam to the Lexington United Methodist Church Building Fund. He is survived by his wife, Maree Hollingsworth Gilliam; brother, Ralph Gilliam; daughters, Allison Gilliam (Carter Harmon), Lorri Yarborough (Brent), Rebecca Hawkins, and Sally Ann Burke (Peter); grandchildren, Brian, Lane, Bobby and Ben Yarborough, Cody Hawkins, Quinn Maree, Sarah and Sophie Burke.
