Arthur "Art" Harding Southerlin, 74, of Lexington, SC, passed away on February 19, 2024. He was born on July 8, 1949, in Greenville, SC. Art was a man of integrity with a strong moral compass. Overcoming many obstacles, his mental faculties were built upon the virtues of love, patience, honesty, and kindness. Over the years, Art played an active role in his family’s lives. He was a pillar of many communities serving as a Scoutmaster for Boy Scouts of America, Quail Hollow Swim Team stroke judge, and baseball coach.
In Art's formative years, he attended Wade Hampton High School and was a graduate from The Citadel, class of 71'. He served in the United States Army Reserves and used his skills as a procurement executive for various companies.
Art was a voracious reader and had an extreme thirst for knowledge. He enjoyed playing chess with his sons, golfing, and sang in multiple church choirs and barbershop quartets. His life-long love of music led him to play the guitar, banjo, and piano.
Art Southerlin is survived by his wife, Debbie Hanlon Southerlin; sons, Kevin Southerlin (Erin) and Stephen Southerlin; daughter, Julie Ann (Brandon Payne); sister, Nancy Truluck (Marty) and their daughter, Jennifer Truluck; sister-in-law, Ginny Hanlon (David Bowlby) and Ginny’s children, Harrison and Savannah Browder; brother-in-law, Chuck Hanlon; and his beloved dog, Callie.
A Celebration of Life for Art Southerlin will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, located at 503 North Lake Drive, Lexington, SC 29072. The family will receive friends and family directly after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mission Lexington.
