Roger was born on October 7, 1947 in Lewiston, Maine to Edgar Perreault and Lucille Perreault (Desjardins). Roger attended local catholic schools and was a graduate of St. Dom's class of 1965.
After graduation Roger earned his Associate Degree in Business from the University of Moncton in Canada, where his Uncle Rino was serving as Priest.
In 1968 Roger started his career at the United States Air Force where his first assignment brought him to Madrid, Spain. In Madrid his love story began with his wife Maria which at the time neither spoke each other languages. Roger was determined to learn to speak Spanish and took Spanish classes each night until he was able to communicate with Maria. They were married in Spain on April 30, 1972 and recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in Madrid Spain with friends and relatives.
After his daughter Elizabeth was born, Roger was stationed in Portsmouth, NH, where Elizabeth and Maria stayed while he took an assignment in Iceland for a year. After coming back from Iceland, the 3 moved to Madrid Spain where Roger's second daughter, Angela was born. Roger and "his girls" stayed in Spain until his last assignment brought him to Albuquerque, NM where he discovered his love of hot balloons while attending the Albuquerque Balloon Festival every October. Roger retired from the Air Force as a MSGT in December of 1988 serving 20 years and 1 day "to be exact" with lots of achievements and acknowledgements under his belt.
After retiring from the Air Force, the family moved back to Lewiston to be closer to family. Once in Maine, Roger started his 2nd career at Bath Iron Works where he was employed until the year 2000. From there Roger decided he no longer wanted to commute and wanted to spend more time with his family. In 2001, he started his service as Parking Enforcement Officer for the Auburn Police Department. He took his job seriously and when I say serious, he even gave his daughter a ticket! He was a person that was fair but followed the rules to a tee. He was honored to be part of the community and was willing to help at any cost. Roger retired from APD in 2011 to take on his next important role as Grandfather.
Roger was all about his family. Throughout the years he was very active in his daughter's activities, whether it be a play or concert or sporting event he was there. That’s when he became active in the youth bowling programs, first at Holiday Lanes and then at Sparetime. He ran the youth league for many, many years and participated in the youth travel league. Coach Roger was very dedicated to the kids and always wanted everyone to have fun. After his daughters were done with youth bowling, he was a part time advisor and coach until his grandson started bowling and he was at it again. In 1997, Roger was inducted into the Bowling Hall of Fame, which was a great honor to him. Sparetime also established a Scholarship Fund in his name which he was proud to bowl each year with a youth to raise money.
Roger enjoyed travelling and always took every opportunity to explore the surroundings of the location he was stationed. Something that now we are grateful we experienced. Roger of course also bowled in various leagues and was always up for a good challenge. He was an avid sports fan; he followed all the New England teams and was fortunate enough to catch a Bruins game this past October.
His favorite pastime though were his beloved grandchildren, he loved to cart them around to their various activities and looked forward to his Friday McDonalds lunch date with them. He also looked forward and enjoyed the family annual trip to Cabbage Island.
Roger is survived by his wife and soulmate, Maria of 50 years, his daughters Elizabeth Perreault and partner Jim Hinxman of Auburn, Angela and husband David Crump, his grandchildren Jonathan, David, Elizabeth, and Abigail of Poland, his sisters Priscille and husband Mike Parrott of Lewiston, Lisa and husband Paul Morin of Wales, his brother Dan Perreault and wife Veronica, Many nieces, nephews, and cousins around the world, along with a special Aunt Lorraine. We also cannot forget all the fur babies he was very fond of.
Roger is predeceased by his parents Edgar and Lucille, his brother Gilles and wife Sue Perreault.
The family would like to thank all the responders and police for helping the family in this time of need. Also, CMMC Emergency team for all their care of Roger and Androscoggin Hospice House for the compassionate atmosphere for Roger to take his last breath.
