Richard "Dick" Becker

Born April 1, 1932 to Cecelia and James Becker of Lewiston. Richard attended St. Joseph's School and Lewiston High School. He was an alter server at St. Joseph's Church from middle school through high school. He was on the 1950 Lewiston High School State Championship baseball team the year he graduated.

Enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951 and served to 1955. During that time he met the love of his live, Dolores Ouellette of Auburn, when he was discharged from the Navy they married in July of 1955.

Employed by Unitil, formerly Northern Utilities. Richard was hired in 1957; promoted to Operations Service Manager in 1974. He worked at the Lewiston, Portland, and Portsmouth, NH divisions to 1993 when he retired at age 61.

Richard finished building or remodeling his five houses during his life. He was an avid fly fisherman and chased the Atlantic Salmon in the Sheepscot, Narraguagus, and Penobscot Rivers of Maine and up into New Brunswick and Cape Breton Island Canada for many years. He became a talented fly tier hand crafting hundreds of the most beautiful flies imaginable. When the fishing restrictions were put into effect on the salmon, he started to summer vacation at Old Orchard Beach and wintered at the beaches of Florida until he could not drive the distance any longer.

Throughout his life Richard attended St. Joseph's, St. Phillip's, and Sacred Heart churches. He was a devoted husband and father. He had beautiful blue eyes, was a humble quiet man, always willing to help even when he became too weak. He enjoyed his men's coffee club, spending Sunday afternoons at his son's lakeside home, and watching the Red Sox and Celtics on television.

Predeceased by his brother Robert 1981 and wife Dolores 2001. Richard is survived by his son Michael of Winthrop and daughter Karen of Auburn. He will be buried at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery on Mt. Vernon Road Augusta following a private ceremony.
