Portland, ME - Raymond Emile Arsenault, known for his unwavering kindness, quick wit, and deep love of music, passed away on March 27, 2025. Born on September 15, 1954, to the late Joseph and Loretta (Meservier) Arsenault, Ray was born into a musical family, and from an early age, music became the heartbeat of his life.
A gifted musician, Ray was an exceptional bass player, earning the nickname "the barefoot bass player" for his signature style. He played in numerous local bands, even touring Sweden with Arlo West, and had a song for every moment and a joke for every occasion, always ready to bring joy to those around him.
Ray worked as a mechanic before taking a leap of faith and opening RDA Automotive with his beloved wife, Doris. His love for hot rods and classic cars brought him to countless car meets, where he found community and camaraderie. If you needed help, Ray was there—no questions asked. And in turn, the people in his life were always there for him, a testament to the love and loyalty he inspired.
He is survived by his children, April Arsenault and her husband, Matt Schreiber; Peter Arsenault and his wife, Jaimie; and Alex Arsenault and his wife, Alicia; step son Jake Sasseville. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Deliah, Acadia, Caelan, Kayson, Ellie, Josie, and Nolan.
Ray is also survived by his siblings: Suzanne Harvey and her husband, Brian; Terry Martin; Linda Waters and her husband, Chet; Janet Arsenault Blanton; John Arsenault and his wife, Christine. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles, as well as his lifelong friends, who were truly his family.
Ray was predeceased by his wife, Doris; his granddaughter, Caelan; his stepson, Alex; and his brothers, Donald and Tony.
Ray lived his life surrounded by the things he loved most—music, laughter, good food, and the people he cherished. If he loved you, he loved you forever, and once you were in his circle, you were family. His presence was a gift, and his absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway, Lewiston, from 1 - 4 PM, where friends and family can gather to honor and remember Ray’s incredible life.
