The Greatest Generation has lost another soul. Lawrence C. Callaghan of Levittown, formerly of Largo, FL, died on Friday, November 14, 2014 at Twining Village in Holland. He was 91. Born in Swoyerville, PA, Mr. Callaghan was a longtime Levittown resident moving to Largo, Florida in 1987 and returning to Levittown in 2009. Until his retirement in 1982, he was a teacher and then principal with the Pennsbury School District for 32 years. Mr. Callaghan was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army, 4th Division, during World War II, receiving three Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. He was an honorary member of the Chapel of Four Chaplains, and was a life member of D.A.V. Post 117. Mr. Callaghan was a member of St. Joseph the Worker parish. He was an avid Yankees fan. Mr. Callaghan was the beloved husband of the late Ann M. Callaghan (nee Steadle); and the late Evelyn J. Callaghan (nee Overcast). He was the loving father of Jane Matty (Angelo) and Patricia Mazza (Jon), both of Levittown and the late Anne Marie Forker. He is also survived by five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
