Edward Brian Callan, a dedicated husband, father, and active member of his community, passed away on January 24, 2024, at the age of 72. Born on September 1, 1951, to Thomas and Gertrude Callan in Philadelphia, PA, Edward had four brothers: Robert, Thomas, Richard, and Paul. Edward leaves behind a legacy of service, commitment, and community involvement.
Edward proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, embodying the values of loyalty, duty, respect, and selfless service. Following his military service, he continued to make a profound impact on the lives of others, serving as the Chief and EMT for Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad for several years. His unwavering dedication to saving lives and helping those in need earned him the respect and gratitude of the community he served.
Professionally, Edward worked in the research division of both Rohm & Haas and Arkema Chemical, showcasing his expertise and commitment to excellence. During his time at Rohm & Haas, Edward also served on the HAZMAT team. Edward's commitment to the well-being of others extended beyond his professional duties. He generously shared his knowledge by teaching first aid and CPR through Saint Mary's Hospital and Bucks County Community College, using his unique sense of humor to leave an indelible mark on those he taught.
Edward leaves behind his beloved wife, Jacqueline Callan (nee Filoon), his three children: Brian Edward Callan (Angela Callan), Shannon Catherine Leyton (Jeff Leyton), Michael Sean Callan and four grandchildren: Aidan Callan, Leah Callan, Brendan Callan, and Bridget Leyton.
Edward will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for the impact he had on the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. Over the years, Edward was a frequent volunteer coach of local youth sports teams including soccer and baseball. His focus on fundamentals and sportsmanship were a positive influence on a number of children, including his own. Due to the numerous connections that he made, his drive, sense of humor and personality will be carried on in the memories of family, friends, and the community he served.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024, from 1 pm until 4 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown, PA 19056. Military Honors will be rendered by the US Marine Corps at 4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to either Penndel-Middletown Emergency Squad or Fisher House Foundation in honor of Edward.
Edward will always be remembered in our hearts and minds as a man who inspired stories that will be shared with his grandchildren and others for years to come.
