David W. Schafer

David W. Schafer David W. Schafer passed away on Monday, November 29, 2010 surrounded by his loving family, at Langhorne Gardens, Langhorne. He was 89. He was an original homeowner in Levittown since1952. David was an usher at Saint Michael the Archangel Parish and was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a 3rd degree member with the Knights of Columbus, St. Joseph the Worker Council 4215. Mr. Schafer was an army veteran, having served with the 99th Infantry during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the John Billington VFW Post #6495. Mr. Schafer was a graduate of the class of '39 from Roman Catholic High School. He was inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame, and was chosen Philadelphia All City in football. He was an honorary member of the Markward Club of Philadelphia. He was an avid sports fan and attended all of his children's and grandchildren's sports events. David retired from Prudential Insurance Company after 35 years of employment. David was the beloved husband of sixty-one years to the late Virginia M. (Miller) Schafer and the devoted father of seven sons; David (Jodi) of Langhorne, Donald (Patricia) of Yardley, Dennis (Kathleen) of Croydon, Greg (Donna) of Fairless Hills, Gerry (Kathy) of Fairless Hills, Richard (Marianne) of Langhorne and Marty (Linda) of Levittown. He was the loving grandfather of Natalie, Dana, Sean, Lindsay, Jason, Laura, Gregory, Eric, Ryan, Kevin, Kristen, Richard, Megan and Madison, the great grandfather of Andrew and Josie. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Margaret M. Whittall and Elizabeth Ackley and his two brothers-in-law, Harry Miller and Leo Gannon. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, 5:00 until 9:00 pm at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Road, Levittown and on Thursday, from 9:00 until 10:00 at Saint Michael the Archangel Church, 66 Levittown Parkway, Levittown, where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am. Rite of Committal will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
