Charles J. Burns, of Langhorne, died on Tuesday, April 12, 2011 at his home. He was 78. Born in Philadelphia, Mr. Burns was raised in Wyncote, PA. He attended LaSalle High School and later Jenkintown High School from where he graduated in 1950. He then went on to attend Mt. St. Mary College and LaSalle College Mr. Burns moved to the Cobalt Ridge section of Levittown in 1957 and resided there for many years before moving to Langhorne 11 years ago. He served as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict stationed at Fort Hood, Texas from 1953 to 1955. Mr. Burns was a Partner with Burns McLaughlin Consulting in Langhorne. He was a member of the Teilhard Society and the American Legion Post #960. He was also a member of Queen of the Universe parish since 1957. Mr. Burns was a life long sports fan and an avid tennis player, but he truly enjoyed watching his granddaughters play tennis and his grandsons playing baseball and soccer. He enjoyed spending the winters in Florida for the past 20 years. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara L. Burns, his parents, Dr. John C. and Mary (Desmond) Burns and his brother, John C. Burns. Mr. Burns was the beloved husband of Eleanor M. "Ellie" Burns for 58 years. He was the loving father of Peggy McAuley (David), William C. Burns (Kathleen), Charles J. Burns, Jr. (Janette), and Hon. Michael J. Burns (Karen). He was the devoted grandfather William C., Matthew R. and Stephen T. Burns, Meaghan R. and Brian D. McAuley and Jennifer Barbara and Jessica Maria Burns. He was the brother of Mary (Burns) McDonough (the late Dr. Michael McDonough), Robert Burns (Dorothy) and Catherine Burns-Eisenburg (Victor). He will be sadly missed by numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to call Friday from 6 until 9 p.m. and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 12 noon at the James J. Dougherty Funeral Home, Inc., 2200 Trenton Rd., Levittown. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, 12:30 p.m. at Queen of the Universe Church. Interment is private.
