Mark was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to the late Calvin and Virgil Huber. He graduated from Harry S. Truman High School in Levittown PA in 1976. After graduation, Mark continued his education at Bucks County Community College, where he found and cultivated his passion for Chemistry and the Sciences. Mark went on to establish a career as a Chemist, beginning at Petrarch Systems Inc. (later acquired by Evonik/Hüls), a specialty chemical company owned by Barry Arkles and Kevin King. In 1991, Mark was invited to join their new company, Gelest Inc. in ownership and the three worked together until the operation was acquired by Mitsubishi Chemical Corp in 2020. Mark’s successful career of over 40 years led to lifelong friendships with Barry, Kevin, and colleagues becoming his second family.
Mark loved cycling, surf fishing, and deep-sea fishing on the Tuna-Tic out of Belmar. NJ. He was a fan of early ‘70s punk music and was a regular at City Gardens in Trenton NJ, maintaining a close friendship with Randy Now (owner of Randy Now’s Mancave in Highstown NJ). He made the best cheesecakes, thought himself to be a world class chef and knew all kinds of unusual tidbits - like the fact that the Blue-Footed Booby was considered an endangered species on the Galapagos Islands. He had a sharp, acerbic, sarcastic sense of humor that was undeniably unique and unforgettable. Mark made friends for life. Even if he had only met you once, he remembered every detail and could recount millions of memories. He was kind to all and generous beyond measure. He loved hearing the tales of Anthony Bourdain, Daniel Bouled and Eric Ripert and was proud to have dined at restaurants owned by Daniel and Eric.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Calvin and Virgil Huber, his sister Diane Shellenberger, and his sister Eveann Burcosky.
Mark is survived by his loving wife Michele Bishop of Newtown PA, his stepson Duston Hall of Levittown PA, grandchildren Mya Ella Hall and Devon George Hall of Roanoke TX, brothers Rick Huber of Levittown PA, and Mick and Diane Huber of Port Charlotte FL, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved best friend- Sandy/Girly - his 12-year old pit bull mix.
In honoring Mark’s wishes, we will not hold a viewing or formal service. Mark wished to be cremated. The family will have a celebration of life at a later time.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Bucks County SPCA in his memory. All donations noted in Mark’s memory on their website will be directed to their Animal Relief Fund, which is used to offset costs of essential veterinary surgical care for rescue animals with special needs. Donations can be made by phone, mail, or direct website contribution and are tax deductible.
