Mrs. McCall was born October 14, 1931, in Burke County to the late William Asbury and Alma Helton Woods. She was also preceded in death by her brothers Frank Woods and June Woods and a granddaughter, Wendy Smith.
Mae was an active member of Union Grove Baptist Church until her declining health due to a stroke in 2018. She was a former Sunday school teacher, choir member, and WMU member. She served on several committees over the past years and taught Vacation Bible School. Mae dearly loved her Lord and lived for Him daily. She was a wonderful Christian example for her family, friends, and neighbors.
Mae graduated from Oak Hill High School in 1950. She was also a member of the Baton Ruritan Club for many years.
Her chosen profession was an upholstery seamstress. She worked at several places including Broyhill Furniture, Waters Furniture, and Crestline Furniture. After retiring from public work, she continued to sew from her home for several upholsterers until she was 80 years old.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of over 70 years, Fred McCall, of the home; her daughter, Winkie M. Hall; her son, Tommy McCall and wife Donna; her daughter, Teresa M. Smith and husband Jeff. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Scott Hall and wife Charlene, Michael Hall and wife Jessica, Toby McCall and wife Mandi, Joshua McCall and wife Kelly, Benjamin Smith and wife Meredith, Rev. Jason Smith and wife Christine, Courtney S. Morton, 13 great-grandchildren, and several step-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister, Mary Jane Hart and husband Donald, and brother, John Woods and wife Gail.
Mae was a special lady and will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved her, especially her family.
A graveside service will be held with social distancing at Union Grove Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 20, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Sam Craven and Rev. Jeff Lambert officiating. Her six grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
