In addition to his parenst, he is proceeded in death by his son Richard Filmore Townsend and Daughter Sara Townsend Shoemake.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Jane Townsend, Sons Jeff, Clarence and John. Two daughters Angela and Teresa. 12 Grandchildren and Many Great Grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held to honor Mr. Townsend on Monday, September 27, 2021 at 2:30 pm at the Townsend Family Cemetery in Sugar Mountain.
Military honors will be provided by the North Carolina National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends on Monday, September 27, 2021 at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home from 10:30 am until 11:30 am.
