Mr. Corpening was born in Caldwell County, November 21, 1929 to the late Fred Henery Corpening and Amy Reid Corpening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Carrie Edna Hood Corpening, brothers, Cletton and Clyde Corpening, sisters; Julie Ramsey, Dorothy Dula, Louise Harshaw and Shirley Moore.
Mr. Corpening was formerly employed at Bernhardt Furniture for 25 years, 10 years at Thomasville Furniture and Lenoir Machine Shop.
He is survived by three sons; Marvin M. Corpening of Charlotte, Herbert and wife Anna and Fred A. Corpening both of Lenoir, three daughters; Judy Witherspoon and husband Paul of Lenoir, Norma Corpening of Kings Mtn, Joyce Younce and husband Wayne of Lenoir, three brothers; Samuel Reid and wife Clara of Lenoir, Russell Corpening of Winston Salem, John Corpening and Wife Jonnie May of Hickory, three sisters; Carolyn Witherspoon and husband James, Sharon Logan and husband Roger, Zelma Nelson and Mary Armstrong and husband Wes all of Lenoir, 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Pendry’s Chapel with the Pastor Billy Lipford and Elder Robert Hayes officiating. Burial will follow in Corpening Town Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
