Donald was born in Bloomington, Illinois and was active duty in the Air Force after graduating high school, which led to a career as a policeman and working in security. He lived for many years in Sebastian, Florida, where he loved to fish and sail. Donald spent his latter years working in security in Andros Island, Bahamas, when not spending time working on house improvements and growing his movie collection in Lenoir, North Carolina.
Donald is preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Dorothy Bergquist Nelson, Reverend Edward Nelson, and Richard Nelson, MD.
Survivors include his sons, Joshua and Jason, former wife, Candy, brother, David, and sisters, Kathleen and Deborah, and special friend, Connie. Also, numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Pendry's Funeral Home, Lenoir, North Carolina, at 4:00 PM on Saturday, August 5th 2023.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared for the Nelson family.
