At the young age of 55, Richard Castillo Jr. passed away on December 23, 2015 surrounded by family in his Spring Valley home. He had been battling cancer for the past year and half.
Richard Pedro Castillo Jr. was born on June 16, 1960 in San Diego, California. His parents, Alice and Richard P. Castillo Sr., raised him along with his 6 siblings in Logan Heights and Spring Valley. Richard had a very bright and vibrant personality that was always present whether at school, during the sports he played and car club he was involved with that drew others to him. He met the love of his life Martha who he married in 1979, and together they raised four kids. During this time Richard worked several jobs at a time. His primary job was with the LMSVSD where he ran and supervised the before and after-school program for 33 years. Although he loved his job, those who knew his passion for watching and coaching sports, also knew that the time he spent coaching youth basketball, baseball, football, and softball meant the world to him. It was through his passions and work that he was able to touch so many lives. The impression he left on so many over the past 55 years has made it hard to find words to express how much he will be missed.
Richard Pedro Castillo Jr. is survived by his wife Martha Castillo, children: Richard Castillo III, Anthony Castillo, Juan Carlos and Krystal Castillo, and Junior and Desiree Guzman, and grandchildren: Savannah, Caleb, Camryn, and Kourtney.
