John Richard Gregory

John Richard Gregory died peacefully on October 25, 2014 of lung cancer surrounded by his loving family. Born in 1937 in El Centro, California, he lived most of his life in San Diego County. His 46 working years were spent in law enforcement, 35 years with the San Diego Police Department and the remainder with the District Attorney’s Office of San Diego County. He commented many times how rewarding and fulfilling his law enforcement career had been in those times.

His family was precious to him and he was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is survived by his wife of 55 years Barbara, sons Bryan (wife, Nina, granddaughter Tia, & grandson, Nick); Kyle (wife Nina L.) and his favorite pal Cosmo. He will be remembered with admiration and affection for his strong beliefs and integrity and we will all miss him terribly. A memorial service will be planned and information will be forthcoming in the next few weeks about time, etc.

He had a strong love of Mother Nature and believed in doing all we can to preserve the planet and environment. In lieu of flowers, please make any donation you care to in his name to one of his many membership groups; Rails to Trails, National Parks Conservation Association, Nature Conservancy, Environmental Defense Fund etc., he thought these, and others, were worthwhile organizations.
