Doris Elizabeth Springer

June 10, 1922 – March 5, 2020

Doris Elizabeth Springer, nee Streitberger, 97, died at home at the Mount Miguel Retirement Village in Spring Valley, California on March 5, 2020. She had been suffering from dementia for the past several years.

Doris was born on June 10, 1922, in Wheaton, Illinois to George Frederick (Fred) and Rose Belle, nee Sleep, Streitberger. She graduated from Wheaton High School in 1942 and soon after moved to Los Angeles, California, where she met the love of her life, George “Arnold” Springer, on her daily bus ride to work at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, where she served as an executive secretary. Doris was a devoted housewife of 55 years and a dedicated member of the Eagle Rock Covenant church where she and Arnold were active members, having served on the Board of Elders and in many other ways in the life of the congregation until their retirement in 1998. The couple then moved to Spring Valley, California, where they enjoyed many wonderful years at the Mount Miguel Covenant Retirement Village. There they kept up with lifelong friends from their church in Los Angeles, and made many new friends centered around their mutual unwavering commitment to the work of the church and service to the community.

Over the course of her long life, Doris never met a stranger. Her love and compassion were evident to all who knew her. She had a marvelous sense of humor and always had a lively story to warm up a room. Doris dedicated her life to her extended family and to the service of others within her community. Her commitment to the service of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was the cornerstone of everything she did in her life. She will be sorely missed by all who loved her.

Doris is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother George, and his wife, Joan. She is survived by eight nieces and nephews, eight great nieces and nephews, and 10 great-great nieces and nephews.

A graveside internment was held on March 12, 2020, at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, California.
