Patriotism runs deep in the family. Once Charlotte mentioned that if she hadn’t married a Navy man she would have joined the Navy herself. Charlotte and Ross were married September 5, 1941 after meeting on the beach at Long Beach, California and a loving courtship.
They spent their honeymoon travelling across the country—the first of many trips going to their next duty station until Ross retired from the Navy and the family moved from Hawaii to their home in San Diego in 1957. Travel continued to be part of Charlotte’s life but this time for enjoyment. Once the daughters had left home and started a life of their own, Charlotte and Ross continued to travel to China, Japan, Europe and throughout the United States. Her last trip was with a wonderful church friend, Madeline Vastine on safari in Africa in 2008 at the age of 89 and Madeline was 91.
A devoted wife and wonderful mom to their two daughters Pam and Sandie, Charlotte loved flowers and floral arranging. She was outgoing and a natural hostess when it came to social events or parties in the home. She was a very active member of Alpha Zeta Beta Sorority, a philanthropic sorority she joined in 1958. She also was very active at Torrey Pines Christian Church from the time she and Ross joined in 1970 until 2012 when her health began to fail.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Cora Manning, her grandson Jeffrey Anderson and her beloved husband Ross, who passed away in 1994. She is survived by her daughters Pamela King and Sandra Cooper, her son-in-law Donovan Cooper, granddaughter Kimberly Martinez and her husband Galo Martinez and two Great Grandsons Alex and Cory Martinez.
