Lena W Blair

It is with great sorrow that the family of Lena Blair announce her passing on Sunday, April 20, 2025. Lena was a much beloved and active member of the Leeds community for over 60 years. She was born in Columbiana, Al., one of eight children. Her family had the distinction of having a set of triplets as well as a set of twins. Lena was one of the triplets. Upon her graduation from the University of Montevallo in 1960, she moved to Leeds to begin a teaching position at Leeds High School. There she taught girls' physical education and, later on, biology, until her retirement in 1993. In 1971, she founded the Leeds High School Green O'Dears, a drill team that performs in conjunction with the Leeds High School marching band. She remained their sponsor for many years. A scholarship was created in her name to honor her contributions to this organization and is awarded to help further the education of any Green O'Dear.

Lena was also an active member of the Leeds First Methodist Church. She served as a Sunday school teacher, sang in the church choir, and was always helping out in many of the church's service organizations.

Lena was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Paul S. Blair, her parents, Reverend Gaston and Annice Walton, her brothers, Paul Walton and Thomas Walton, Sr., and her sisters, Amy Crump and Catherine Whitten. She is survived by her daughters, Paula Blair-Ray (Randy) and Catherine Elaine Blair, her sisters, Lula Vanhooser (David), Martha Smith, and Mary Sandlin (Morris), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The viewing will be Saturday, April 26, 2025, from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM at Kilgroe Funeral Home 1750 Ashville Road Leeds, Alabama 35094. The funeral service will be conducted at Kilgroe Funeral Home on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Leeds First Methodist Church and anchor Community Respite Ministry at Asbury United Methodist Church in Birmingham, Alabama.
