Ethel was born in Drumheller AB to Gertie & Jack Welsford, joined later by her twin brother & sister, Lewis & Trudianne. She lived 50 years in East Coulee & Acme, and another 34 years in Leduc & Edmonton. Ethel’s life was complex because of cognitive-emotional challenges not understood back then. In her last 10 years Ethel also coped with sudden blindness from CRP inflammation. Nevertheless, Ethel had many talents & considerable strength.
Ethel was creative, musical, & had a wicked sense of humor. She used her wide vocabulary to create puppet stories & other imaginary events; loved music & sang with a strong contralto voice. In her time with Leduc Works & Leduc LINX, Ethel was a proud community volunteer. Despite great fatigue & failing health, Ethel always told us "I love you people so much."
Predeceased by her parents, and her brother, Lewis & nephew, Martin. Ethel leaves behind her sister Trudianne (Bill); nieces: Bessie, Caleya (Trevor) & Veronica (Randy); plus great-nieces & nephews. Our thanks to all staff at Extendicare Holyrood, to Dr. Niall Jones, & to two special people, Mary & Wendy.
A funeral service for Ethel will be held Friday, June 7, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. David's United Church, 4614 48 St, Leduc, AB T9E 5X7. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Leduc Cemetery, 6108 43 St, Leduc, AB T9E 0G8.
