He attended Anderson High School and worked at Goldstar Marble, Grentek and UT System Facilities. He became a machinist by trade working at Grentek. He enjoyed many years there working with both older technology and newer systems.
Russell liked to work on cars and spent many hours under the hood of older and well used vehicles to coax more miles out of them for their thankful owners. He taught his sons how to do their own maintenance and repairs which has served them well. He was a “do it yourself” person and would be asked to assist with projects or would be called on to impart his wisdom in finding solutions to an endless variety of project problems.
He also loved animals and made room in his home for a wide variety of critters during the years. He had a special place in his heart for dogs and cats. He had many beloved dogs that provided him with companionship and mutual enjoyment, especially when “treats” were involved.
Russell was a friend of Bill W. and spent many hours making and serving coffee, visiting with friends and strangers alike and offering encouraging words and hope to others when he himself often needed it the most. He read the Bible from cover to cover more than once and was encouraged by one of his favorite verses, John 3:16.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Bea, and by his grandparents. He is survived by his brother, Jack Crader (LeAnn), his sons, Matthew Neal Crader (Emily Laird), Eric Donald Crader (Ana), granddaughter Addison (Addie) Crader along with nieces, a nephew, cousins and many friends.
Specials thanks to his many friends and “brothers”, especially Quinn, Don, Bill, Dr. Bill and Dan. The many hours of fun and fellowship you all enjoyed through the years, even when times were tough, will be remembered always and appreciated by the family more than you will ever know.
A Memorial Service for Russell N. Crader will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2020 at 1:00 P.M. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 1200 S. Bagdad, Leander, TX 78641.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to a cause close to your heart.
