Danny Ray Johnson

Danny Ray Johnson, 78, of Liberty Hill, Texas passed away on Monday, October 21, 2024. Services will be held at 1:00 PM Saturday, October 26, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Tulia, Texas, with Charles Davenport officiating. A visitation with the family will be held following the service.

Danny was born October 30, 1945, in Tulia, Texas to Charlie and Hazel Johnson. He attended Tulia schools and graduated in 1964. On August 12th, 1972, Danny married the love of his life, Debra (Debbie) Kay Cox. During their 52 years together, they were blessed with 2 children and 3 grandchildren.

Danny enlisted in the U.S. Navy in October 1965 and served 4 years, including a year in Vietnam. Upon his honorable discharge, he moved back to Tulia. His career led him and Debbie to Odessa and Plains until they moved back to Tulia in 1975 to raise their family. Danny enrolled at West Texas State University in January 1977, graduating with a BBA in Accounting in 1979. While Danny spent many years in the banking industry, and with Rucker-Johnson-Holton CPAs, his proudest career accomplishment was leading Mid-Plains Rural Telephone for 25 years before his retirement in 2007.

Danny and Debbie enjoyed their retirement years travelling together and hosting family at their home in Liberty Hill.

Danny is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Charlie Johnson Daniel. He is survived by his wife Debbie of Liberty Hill, daughter Jennifer Johnson Frederick and husband Neal of Round Rock, son Patrick Johnson and wife Jodi of Aledo, and their grandchildren, Samantha Frederick Thompson and husband Colby, Dana Frederick, and Jentri Johnson. Danny is also survived by two sisters and one brother, Bettye McKone of Tulia, Patsy Franks and husband Gerald of Hart, and W.O. Johnson and wife Bertha of Sudan as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests any memorial contributions be made to Wounded Warrior Project or St Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
