Yvonne Reuben Grummer, loving and devoted wife, mother of two, grandmother of four and great grandmother of two, along with a good friend to many, passed away on September 22, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada at the age of 85.
Yvonne was born in Karachi, Pakistan, on December 3, 1936 to David and Diana Reuben. She was preceded in death by her parents and eldest brother Lionel. Her beloved husband Hubert passed away on September 4, 2022, just 18 days before her passing.
Shortly after graduating from St. Mary’s High School in Sukkur, Pakistan, she joined Pakistan International Airlines as a flight attendant, a job she truly loved. Rising quickly through the ranks, she served as the first-class purser on international flights and as a result met many dignitaries, royalty, and movie stars. Throughout her life, she enjoyed sharing stories of her experiences and the people that she met during this time period.
Mutual friends, Benny and Nora Reuben, introduced Yvonne to her husband Hubert, who was serving with the Marines on Embassy duty in Karachi, Pakistan. Yvonne and Hugh were married on November 21, 1964 in Conway, AR. She enjoyed life in the United States, but in true “military family” fashion, she and her young family lived in more than 15 places in the US and around the world.
In 1976, Yvonne started her career with the Navy Exchange. She held several positions as she climbed the career ladder including Buyer, Regional Merchandise Manager and Department Manager. Overseas, Yvonne worked in Naples, Italy, the district office at Yokosuka, Japan, and NEX Bahrain. Stateside, Yvonne supported the Military Families in San Diego, Oakland, Alameda and Miramar. She retired from the Navy Exchange in 2012 and relocated with Hubert to Las Vegas, NV where she made many new friends, hosted get togethers, and was always willing to share stories of her past experiences, show you her fruit trees, or tell you about items she collected from around the world. She was a member of Saint John Neumann Roman Catholic Church.
Yvonne is survived by her son David, of California, daughter Diana Reininger and her husband Peter, of Fayetteville, GA, four grandchildren, Carissa Grummer, of Clovis, NM, Dakota Grummer, of Denver, CO, Thomas and Rachel Reininger, of Fayetteville, GA, and two great-grandchildren, Kyson and Maliyah Ramirez, of Clovis, NM.
