Bill, a loving husband, father and grandfather, went to his heavenly rest on Sunday, April 14, 2024, after a long battle with cancer. Born in Brooklyn, NY, on December 17, 1940, to Wilbur E. Sr. and Carolyn M. Audley. Bill grew up in New Hyde Park, Long Island, NY. He was active in Boy Scouts as well as his church and earned his Eagle Scout award as a junior/senior in high school. After high school he briefly attended college and then went to work as an electronics technician. He married his wife of 62 years, Barbara Laub Audley, in 1961. Shortly thereafter he joined the U.S. Navy and they moved to Southern California. Bill earned the rating of Electronics Technician Radar 2d Class over 3 tours to Viet Nam. After his enlistment ended, he worked for the Long Beach Naval Shipyard as an electronics technician and photographer.
Bill began his career as a financial planner after Barbara’s career took them to Brookings, South Dakota, where they raised their two daughters. He remained in the financial field until his retirement in 2015. He earned his bachelor’s degree in career and technical education from the University of South Dakota, Springfield. Also during this time, Bill joined the Kiwanis International Brookings Kiwanis Club where he served as president and participated in many community service activities, including honing his skills as a master pancake maker. Later he followed Barbara’s career to River Falls, WI, Kearney, NE, and Bellingham, WA, where he served as a Lt. Governor of the Pacific Northwest Division of Kiwanis. He loved his participation in Kiwanis clubs and was a 33-year member of the International organization.
In addition to Kiwanis, Bill was very active in Episcopal parishes in each town, serving as sound technician and eucharistic minister. In 2013, Bill and Barbara retired to Las Vegas, NV, to be near their older daughter and her family. While in Las Vegas, he continued his hobby of amateur radio and was part of the local county emergency communications network. His call sign N7BA now has been retired. Recently he was also moderator of the American Legion Post 76 emergency communications network.
Bill is survived by his wife, Barbara, his daughters Amanda Arante (Oscar) and Victoria Rajkowski (James), grandchildren Alex, Lily and Brandon Arante and Noah and Emma Rajkowski, brother David Audley (Jennifer) and nephews Christopher Audley (Susan), Daniel Audley, and Thomas Audley.
A celebration of life will be held at Grace in the Desert Episcopal Church, 2004 Spring Gate Lane, Summerlin, NV., on Saturday, June 1 at 10 a.m. Interment will be at the St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church columbarium, Sedona, AZ, on June 3.
