Tom was born on July 23rd, 1951, to parents Angeline Mary (nee Osborne) Jones and Richard Raymond Jones in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. Tom graduated from Hartford Union High School in 1969 and joined the Hartford Police Department in March of 1973, as a part-time dispatcher. In 1975, he became a sworn police officer. Rising steadily through the ranks, he was promoted to Sergeant in February 1982. He then served as the interim Chief until being appointed Chief of Police in 1992.
During his law enforcement career, Tom obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice and was a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association, the Law Enforcement Executive Development Association, the Washington County Law Enforcement Council, and the Hartford Area Chamber of Commerce.
Tom enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life. He competed on an elite softball team as a left-handed third baseman. He taught Taekwondo and achieved a third-degree black belt. He enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting and hiking. After retirement and moving to Las Vegas in 2006, he volunteered with the Red Rock Search and Rescue. He also honed his skills in Blackjack and Poker, even competing in the World Series of Poker. He had a love/hate relationship with the Las Vegas Golden Knights Hockey Team and the Green Bay Packers. Most recently, Tom found man’s best friend in Harley, his white German Shepherd. Harley lit up Tom’s life bringing him immense joy and happiness.
Tom is preceded in death by both parents and his brother-in-law, Joseph Grimm.
He is survived by his beloved wife Linda, whom he married on June 27, 1997, and her two (2) children, Brent and Scott Radke.
Tom is also survived by his former wife Rita Lemberger and their four (4) children, Jamie (Scott) Zangl of Wisconsin, Jason Jones of California, Richard (Karen) Jones of Nevada, and Michael (Heather) Jones of Wisconsin. He is also survived and forever cherished by his ten (10) grandchildren Maya, Jocelyn, Nathalia, Robert, Isla, Parker, Avery, Madison, Rocco and Ruby.
He is also survived by a sister, Sue Grimm of Tennessee and brother, Richard (Jane) Jones of California and their families.
His memory will be cherished by his Hartford Police Department Law Enforcement family.
Services will be held at Palm Mortuary located at 6701 North Jones Boulevard, Las Vegas, Nevada 89131 on Wednesday, January 25th, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. with law enforcement honors presented by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department’s Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Vegas Shepherd Rescue located at 2620 Regatta Drive, Las Vegas, Nevada 89128.
