Sofia Paronable 'Leah' Santiago, beloved wife, devoted mother, and doting grandmother, passed away quietly and peacefully on January 16, 2024, at the age of 79 in Henderson, NV. She was born on July 8, 1944, to Elay and Inocencio in San Carlos, Pangasinan, Philippines. Sofia was known for her loving nature and generous spirit. She was indeed a blessing.
Sofia dedicated her life to caring for others as a nurse. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Dagupan City College of Nursing, where she honed her skills and passion for helping those in need. She became a Registered Nurse. She was always involved with community outreach programs and was a sociable lady.
Sofia's compassion and dedication touched the lives of many patients throughout her career. She worked professionally and lived near her first job, at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital, in Chicago, Illinois, and later lived in the community of St. Peter Canisius School. Soon after petitioning the immediate family joined Sofia.It was wonderful to have her husband Ernesto and their children son Nestor and daughter Natalie, together again. Ernesto and Sofia married December 5, 1971 and lived in holy matrimony for 52 years.
Sofia had a successful career as a RN. Her nursing career spanned over 25 years as an intensive care nurse at mainly two hospitals, St. Mary of Nazareth and Illinois Masonic Hospital. She loved her job. And gave of herself unconditionally.
Sofia's pride and joy was her family, lifelong friends and travel. Earlier years, her weekly pilgrimage was to The Basilica and National Shrine of Mary Help of Christians at Holy Hills, Erin, Wisconsin.There she prayed and enjoyed beautiful surroundings. Praying the rosary was especial to her Filipino cultural. Sofia was a devout Catholic and faithful servant of God. In the ladder years she and Ernesto took more elaborate vacations with friends to Europe, Philippines, Mexico, Alaska, Seattle, New York and other East coast states.
Sofia's personality, talents and love made a tremendous impact on everyone who knew her and encountered her compassionate ways. She was a special and remarkable woman. She was liked and loved dearly and will be missed beyond words.
After years of visiting, Sofia and Ernesto made their home here in Las Vegas, NV. They enjoyed the warm weather, picnics, parties and the Las Vegas resort style living. They always welcomed and made time for family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her two beloved Sisters Nenita Macaraeg and Thelma Macaraeg.
Sofia is survived by her loving husband, Ernesto, son Nestor (Lauren), daughter Natalie (Frederick), as well as her cherished grandchildren, Emily and Nathan. Numerous family and friends are saddened and will miss Sofia forever.
We trust that God & the Angel's have welcomed Sofia into the Kingdom of paradise to live eternally.
