Romeo Francis Valdez was born on Friday, May 1, 1970, at Tripler Hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was the youngest child of Rodolfo & Elizabeth Valdez.
At an early age, Romeo was extremely popular, not only because he was the baby of the family, but also because of his good looks and charming personality. He stole the show wherever he went.
In his youth, he quickly learned that this was a TENNIS family. He grew up with his older siblings playing tennis, so it was only natural that he started playing as well. And that he did. Through most of his teen years and beyond, Romeo had competed in many tournaments and came home with numerous trophies. He really had a passion for it and because of that, he was good. Romeo was ranked in the USTA Book (United States Tennis Association) for 18+ category.
Romeo was a major sports fan. He loved all types of sports. His favorite football team – Tennessee Titans, Baseball - San Francisco Giants. All University of Hawaii teams. He loved watching little league, volleyball, golf and of course tennis. He was an avid boogie boarder and enjoyed body surfing. One of his favorite beaches . . . Sandy Beach on the island of Oahu.
Aside from Sports, Romeo had another passion. . .. Music! He was a total rocker in high school and branched out to other genres. He even grew out his hair and one point during his teen years and looked like a rocker. He loved going to concerts and FEELING the music. He loved to sing as he goes about his day. One of his all-time favorite bands was Heart! He flew to different cities to see them perform and it was so worth it.
There was another passion of Romeo that is not much spoken about. . .THE PASSION FOR FOOD. He started his passion for food when he was a cook for Moose McGillycuddy’s in Waikiki right out of high school. He was exposed to different types of food and how to prepare them. He was adventurous and loved trying new cuisines.
Romeo met his beautiful wife, Carla during their high school years and have been together ever since.
Romeo has made many friends during his journey. Most of them he met through tennis or people connected through tennis. He also made some lasting friends through places that he worked. It is great to see that many people traveled from near and far to be here with us to celebrate his life.
Romeo is survived by his loving wife, Carla Kimokeo-Valdez, his parents, Rodolfo and Elizabeth Valdez, his sisters, Ruby Matsui and Rebecca Kaplan and his brother Rudy Valdez, his nieces and nephews: Nicole Matsui, Mason Kaplan, Griffin Kaplan, Kai Matsui, Chesca Valdez and Olivia Kaplan.
A memorial service for Romeo will be held Sunday, November 13, 2022 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Palm Eastern Mortuary, 7600 S Eastern Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89123.
