RICHARD GEORGE PETERSON Born April 20th, 1929 in Pomona, California to Anastasia Mary & George Bertram Peterson went home to be with the lord on May 13, 2016. He grew up on his father’s chicken ranch in Pomona, then went on to enlist in the Navy at the age of 17. His Navy career started in 1946 at the end of World War II, he also served in Korea, China, Japanese occupation and Vietnam. He served in mine force aboard various mine sweepers and was one of the original UDT Underwater Demolition Teams which is now known as the Seals. In all he served 22 years. Later he went on to work for Cal State Long Beach University. He loved sports of all kinds. He coached fast pitch softball with his daughters and soccer with his son. He also coached for Fountain Valley High School Junior Varsity Soccer. He later retired with his wife in Las Vegas, Nevada where he became an avid golfer. He also returned to another of his favorite hobbies building ship model’s. Three lessons he taught us were to Work hard, Be honest and Be happy. He is preceded in death by his eldest daughter Kathleen Sue (Frank). He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years Geraldine Frances, Daughters Deborah Ann (Kenneth), Laurie Jeanne (Perry) and Son Frank Gerrard (Nohemi). Grandchildren Daniel, Alexander, Joshua, Kathryn, Kayle, and Lindsay and his best buddy Sammy. Services will be on Friday June 3, 2016 at 1:30pm at Miramar National Cemetery 5795 Noble Dr. San Diego, Ca. 92122.
