Phuong was born on February 10, 1957 to music teachers. Ngoc and Nga Nguyen in Saigon, Vietnam. . Active in the music scene on drums and guitar, Phuong performed with his family band in the 1970s. He was sponsored by his older sister Trang and with his parents and siblings, Tung, Chau, Lan, Dung, Tram, Ann and Thuy, arrived in America in August of 1983.
After arriving in Las Vegas, he entered the workforce in Food and Beverage Hospitality for Harrah’s Hotel & Casino. Always friendly and energetic when providing guest service, his love for entertaining and telling jokes provided a stable career with Harrah’s for 35 years. Phuong met his wife, Tuy Van, at a New Year’s Eve party in Las Vegas. After a brief courtship, they were married on August 4th, 1984. Tuy Van and daughter Kim Lee welcomed Phuong into their new family.
Phuong and Tuy Van would go on to have 2 more children, Paul Minh and Tina Trinh. They moved to Henderson, NV where Phuong would raise his family as a cheerful and devoted father, husband and brother. He was always proud to be a part of a large family and welcomed them to his home for every birthday and celebration. When Phuong wasn’t hosting barbecues and parties, he loved to travel to Southern California with his family.
Visiting Orange County allowed him to feel close to his Vietnamese heritage and traveling to the beach was his favorite connection to nature and the ocean that separated him from his home country. Their vacation destination of choice was Disneyland U.S.A. in Anaheim. It is a place of fond memories for his family - experiencing the joys and laughter alongside his children, and many nieces and nephews.
He was an avid fan of music, movies, television and video games. Phuong dedicated much of his time to capturing memories and events. He was an active member of the Vietnamese Catholic church community as a volunteer and videographer. He loved being behind the camera and microphone as a journalist, radio host, musician, and director of home videos. He was a proud father, grandfather and uncle.
