Norma M. Kirk, affectionately known as Dumpie was born on November 18, 1923 to Mr. and Mrs. Hempill in Parkesburg, West Virginia. Dumpie accepted Christ early in her life while living in Parkesburg, West Virginia. She graduated from high school at age 15years old and she was the Valedictorian of her class. She and her family moved from Parkesburg, West Virginia and made New York City their home.
While residing in New York City, she worked as a telephone operator as well as other various jobs. She was passionate about life and family. She moved from New York City to Los Angeles, California. While residing in Los Angeles, California she and her girlfriend owned a thrift store.
There in Los Angeles, California she met the love of her life Walter Kirk. They were married on March 19, 1974. She and her husband left Los Angeles, California and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to enjoy retirement life until his death on July 8, 2001. She enjoyed traveling, sports, reading and playing poker on the machines. She often would refer to going gambling as going to work. She enjoyed teaching lessons to her great grandchildren Autumn, Chance, Jordyn and Tavares Jr.
On April 20, 2015, she departed this life to eternal sleep and leaves to cherish her memory two sisters Elizabeth Fabers, Retta Butler and one brother- in- law, Randolph Butler. Nieces, Estella Grady, Gloria Pulani Ortiz, Cissy Bentine, Shaunta and Nicole Butler. Three great nieces, Lea Alves, Michele Felton and Princess Hemphill. Two great-great nieces, Dorienne Brown and Simone Smith. Nephews, James Bostick, Jeffrey Ortiz, Gregory Hemphill, Randolph Butler Jr, Mark Lewis, Michael Lewis and Lance Lewis. Seven great nephews, Juleick Smith and Jeffrey Smith, Ronald Hemphill Jr, Milton Hemphill, Wayne Hemphill, Christian Washington and Brie Pulani. Three great- great nephews, Channing, Brandon and Malik Alves. Three granddaughters, Natasha and Vernetta McCorvey and Toi Kingsbury. One grandson Patrick Paxton. Cousins, Doreen and Robert Winfield. Her beloved dog Missy. A host of other cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
For all the children she raised, the nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great- grandchildren. She deserves a standing ovation for being the greatest disciple and leader our lives have ever known.
