For the greater part of his career, Matt worked the same job as Homer Simpson and enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Midway, and Spain. Through his travels to exotic places like Fremont, Nebraska, he met his wife Kelly (his crazy). They quickly became inseparable and remained so for the next 26 years. First and foremost, Matt was a family man, and his desire to be with his wife and start a family led to a change in careers that would keep him closer to home. Matt worked in HOA Management and real estate retiring in 2020 to care for his mom, Charleen Kirkman, until her passing in November 2023.
Matt never failed to keep life interesting with an abundance of shock and awe moments. His bold personality took us on adventures and our cup runneth over with stories to delight family and friends. He was rough around the edges and reserved his soft side for family. He had a ferocity about him with a fire that burned strong and bright. The warmth of that fire will be missed forever among those who knew him. His humor was fast and inappropriate, lighting up a room with smiles.
His children: William Steavenson IV, Conner Mitchell, and Christy Mitchell were his pride and joy. Every day began with what he was doing with them that day. Matt enjoyed attending his children's sporting events, watching horror films, bacon, witty banter, traveling, and attending concerts. In his endless quest to win the lottery, one of his favorite things to do was ride his Harley to Arizona for the tickets. For a big biker type, Matt wasn't scared to let his inner dork shine as a Trekkie by binge-watching Star Trek, Andromeda, and Star Gate episodes while glued to his iPad playing a Star Trek game. Kelly often experienced the joy of receiving a photo of his newly won starships after conquering a worthy opponent.
Matt was an amazing father, husband, and friend. Instead of flowers, the family asks for donations for the children’s college funds.
Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure.
A celebration of life for Matthew will be held Sunday, February 11, 2024 at 4:00 PM at Palm Northwest Mortuary, 6701 North Jones Blvd, Las Vegas, Nevada 89131.
