Lois Diane Garner Johns Ridenour, mother, sister and friend, transitioned from this life to eternal peace quietly at home Saturday, June 23, 2012, after 76 years of caring and sharing. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert G. Ridenour and Vincent B. Johns. She leaves to celebrate her living two children, Brian and Alison Johns; one grandson, Rafael Johns; three stepsons, Anthony, Lionel and Kevin Ridenour; two brothers, Louis and Robert Garner; two sisters, Shirley Garner and Constance Sewell; cousins, Gloria Bazemore, Wilma Forrest and Willis Walker Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and colleagues around the world. Lois was a member of the 5th Avenue High School Class of 1953 in Pittsburgh, and a member of Central Baptist Church in Pittsburgh. In her long life of public service, she was employed as a civilian in human resources for the U.S. Department of Defense on, among others, Vandenberg and Yokota Air Force Bases. She was a vice president of the southern California chapter of the NAACP and worked up until her last six months of life as a human resource director at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas School of Dental Medicine. She loved life and lived in service to the Lord. A memorial service and celebration of life will be at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 24, at Shadow Hills Baptist Church, 7811 Vegas Drive, Las Vegas. A reception will follow at the same location. Cremation and a private burial have been planned at Lois' request. Donations may be made to the NAACP and the American Cancer Society .
