Lois was the oldest child of Walter and Lillian Perry. She was born on Staten Island, New York, and spent her childhood there with her extended family. At the height of World War II, the threat of German U-boats near Staten Island made her parents uneasy, and in 1943, the family moved across the country to La Jolla, California. Lois graduated from La Jolla High School, worked as a nursery school teacher and met Allen Lynn, a U.S. Marine from Georgia. They married and started their family, ultimately having seven children. They lived first in Arizona and Utah, and finally settled in Las Vegas in 1962. Widowed in 1972, less than two years after the birth of her last baby, Lois faced the challenges of being a single mom, juggling the demands of work and home.
Always curious about the world around her, she encouraged her children to be inquisitive. She woke them up to watch NASA launches and moon landings on television, and took the family to Edwards Air Force Base to see the landing of Space Shuttle Columbia. The family spent vacations in the Utah mountains, where her children and their friends explored the outdoors.
A devotee of both Indy car and horse racing, Lois also was an artist, a sculptor, a seamstress and designer. She loved to cook, often scouring cookbooks for new recipes. She was a world traveler, and declared Mongolia to be her favorite destination. She had a large collection of t-shirts from her travels. She adored children and strived to enrich their lives with knowledge and wonderful experiences. Her nieces and even her children’s friends considered her a second mom because she treated them with care and valued their intelligence.
Being alive brought joy to Lois. She was proud of her children, who had matured into caring, productive adults with diverse interests. She always wanted to see what came next, so in early September, she decided to get a new passport so she could travel to Mexico with her youngest daughter. She wanted to live to be 102 years old, but was unable to achieve that goal. She died peacefully, surrounded by love and family.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband Allen, daughter Suzanne, and brothers, Curt and Cyrus Perry. She is survived by her children, Morgan, Jeffrey (Peggy), Nancy (Mark), Laura (John), Georgia (Sonny), and Barrie (Bryan), along with nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and her beloved cat, Cal. How she loved them all.
