It is with sadness that we announce Kenneth Gordon Reid, our friend, supporter, leader, partner, adviser, champion sailboat racer and so much more, peacefully passed away at his home in Las Vegas the morning of May 31, 2024 at the age of 93.
Ken was born September 11, 1930 in Winnipeg, Canada to Stanley and Elsie Reid. He and his siblings, Noreen and Monty grew up in Winnipeg and Minaki in the summer surrounded by their parents, aunts, uncles and Grandparents. Ken was always active, playing ice hockey and downhill skiing from an early age, and as a youth achieving the alternate position on the 1948 Canadian Olympic ski team. He skied and sailed throughout his life. During his later years he particularly enjoyed traveling around the world, making friends, and sailing his one design Dragon class sailboat. He enjoyed making and flying model airplanes in his youth and later remote control airplanes and sailboats, then moved onto a large model garden railway.
Ken was an entrepreneur from an early age, progressing from draftsman to salesman to many times a company owner and president throughout his life. Ken was expert at recognizing and capitalizing on many opportunities in his business and personal life, with his last career being a Fenestration Consultant and Expert Witness until he finally retired at age 85. He was generous, kind, a wonderful storyteller of his many amazing experiences, and a great teacher using his own experiences as examples. He always lived life with gusto and his luminous personality will be sorely missed by many.
Ken was preceded in death by a son, 4 previous wives, his parents and siblings. He is survived by his beloved son Bruce Reid, daughter Terri-Lou Trainor, their spouses, 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life for Kenneth will be held Saturday, August 10, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Royal Vancouver Yacht Club, 3811 Point Grey Rd, Vancouver, British Columbia. RSVP to Bruce or Kit.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ken's memory may be made to the Assistance League of Las Vegas or the Salvation Army.
