Kenneth McWhirter Boyce, 78, passed away suddenly on May 28, 2021 in Clear Lake, Texas, due to complications of preventative chemotherapy treatment. Ken was born September 26, 1942, in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A graduate of Las Vegas High School, Ken joined the Navy where he served aboard the USS Princeton. Ken loved his time in the Navy and could talk scuttlebutt for hours. After serving his country honorably, he returned to Las Vegas in 1964 and eventually started a family with his first wife with whom he had six children.
Ken had a love for automobiles, which he shared with his father, they greatly enjoyed the time spent together restoring old cars. Ken’s love for his father led him to follow his footsteps and become a police officer. In 1970 he joined the Las Vegas Police Department. He served his community for 17 years as a patrol officer, training officer, and member of the SWAT Team.
Ken’s second marriage to fellow police officer, Brenda Bush Parker, took place on Halloween 1981. Together they served at Metro until 1987 when they relocated to Marshall, Michigan. They returned to Las Vegas in 1992 and Ken went to work with former Metro colleagues at the Desert Inn and retired from the Venetian as Chief Investigator in 2005.
During retirement, Ken greatly enjoyed traveling with his wife, Brenda. Together they traveled the country by car, plane, train, and crossed two oceans on cruises. The always enjoyed experiencing new places.
In 2005 Ken and Brenda relocated to coastal Texas. He met a wonderful group at the Galveston County Model Railroad Club and enjoyed spending his time there. Ken was a gentle giant, loved by all who had the fortune to meet him. He loved talking to people and could start up a conversation with anyone.
Ken is preceded in death by his parents, Martin Calvin Boyce and Mildred Pratt. He is survived by his wife, Brenda Margaret Bush, his sister Patricia Watson of Springfield, Missouri; children, Eric Boyce, Kenneth Mathew (Rose) Boyce, Cherri Boyce, Shanon (Kevin) Hennessay, Michael Boyce, Christopher Boyce, and step-daughter Maggi Parker-Gentry; grandchildren Kenna Boyce (Adhir Oliva), Michael Boyce, Jasmine Boyce, step-grandchildren Sarah Parker and Lucas Moore; and step-great grandson Aiden Parker.
Viewing will be held on Friday, June 11 from 6-9pm at Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main, Las Vegas, Nevada. Services will be Saturday, June 12 at 11:30am. Internment will immediately follow.
Memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, June 19, at 11am, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints at 4655 South Shore Blvd., League City, Texas.
