The world was blessed with a unique person when Keith was born on September 23, 1934, to Garfield and Blodwen Jones in the village of Garth, Wales.
Keith had the most interesting childhood. He had many stories to tell about the colorful characters and events in and around the village and had many stories of his own. Among the many pets he had was a hawk that had to be fed a rabbit every 2 days. He went hunting with his dad to shoot rabbits for their own food and fishing in the Dulais River which flowed by his home. As a schoolboy for a school assignment, he gathered bird’s eggs from the side of the mountain. To earn money, he gathered nuts to sell to tradesmen who came through the village. He also helped his father with the sheep that they raised.
Keith attended primary school in the nearby village of Builth. While attending Builth High School he played soccer and was quite a star. He graduated from the University of Swansea as a Metallurgical Engineer. He was the first in the family to earn a college degree.
In 1956 Keith emigrated to Canada to work for Inco in Northern Ontario later transferring to Southern Ontario where he met his wife, Sandra. Eventually he went to work in mining, which was what he loved most. He enjoyed almost 30 years in the mining industry. Being in mining meant many moves for Keith and Sandra and their two amazing children, Wayne, and Sheelagh. He worked for the health district issuing permits for air pollution which led to him opening his own business GWE Consultants which he sold and is still a thriving business today.
Keith loved to travel, and he and Sandra visited many countries with the photo Safari in Kenya being his favorite.
Keith loved to laugh and to make others laugh He had a great sense of humor which he kept to the very end. A fellow Rotarian once said “if I were ever caught in a fox hole, I would want to be with Keith Jones because he is smart and he is funny.
Keith is predeceased by his son Wayne and survived by his wife Sandra, daughter Sheelagh and brother Martyn.
