Kay Dudley

Kay Dudley of Las Vegas passed away peacefully November 8, 2014. She was born on July 5, 1940 to Raymond and Velma Coady in Glendale, California. The family moved to Las Vegas in 1941 and Kay has been a resident since then. Kay graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1958 and furthered her education by attending the University of Nebraska, Lincoln (Go Big Red!) with a Bachelor's degree in education in 1962. After graduation, she moved back to Las Vegas where she dedicated her life to her chosen career as an elementary school teacher within the Clark County School District for 28 years. After retirement she spent additional time in the classroom volunteering as a reading mentor. She looked at teaching “her kids” as a privilege and enjoyed that as much as she did raising her own children. In her retirement, she enjoyed “doing brunch”, playing bridge and traveling (especially cruises) with friends and family. She inherited a passion for football from her Daddy and spent many weekends cheering on her favorite teams. A true 'Vegas Lady', she was happiest when “Old Blue Eyes” was on the stereo and Filet Mignon was in the broiler. Her circle of friends included fellow teachers, community leaders, neighbors and many others throughout the Las Vegas community. Kay was always willing to lend an ear and was genuinely interested in people's lives. Her kindness and generosity knew no bounds. She is survived by her beloved children, Brice Dudley (DeeDee) of Jackson, Wyoming and Tara Dudley (Robert Sodin) of Las Vegas, her grandsons Roger and Wade Dudley, James and Raymond Sodin, and nephew Harland Crow of Las Vegas. She was a proud mother and aunty, but nothing brought her more pride and joy than her grandsons. A viewing will be held on Thursday, November 13th, 2014 from 2 -6 pm at Palm Downtown Mortuary, 1325 N. Main Street, Las Vegas, Nevada. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 1 pm in the same location. Family and friends will gather for a 'Happy Hour' Celebration of her life at Arizona Charlie's, 740 S. Decatur Boulevard in Las Vegas following the service.
