She was born on June 13th, 1961 in Grand Junction, Colorado to Verl and Joyce Curtis. The oldest of 4 children, Kathy was born on her mother’s 21st birthday. She graduated from Grand Junction High School and attended Mesa College in Grand Junction.
After serving a full time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Indiana, Indianapolis mission, she moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where she met and later married her eternal companion, Shane W. Doty. They were sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 2nd, 1987.
Kathy’s greatest desire in life was to be a mother and to love and enjoy her family, which she did. Kathy and Shane are the parents of 5 beautiful children, 1 daughter-in-law, and their first grandchild on the way. Kathy’s life was devoted in every way to her family. She would go to any lengths to attend special occasions and events with her family, and always sacrificing things for herself in order to give to her children. Even when confronted with the news of having a terminal illness, her first words and only concerns were for her children and husband.
Kathy was a lifelong member of The Church of Latter-Day Saints. She served faithfully in every facet of her church life, always serving those around her. Even when no longer able to physically serve in the Church she continued to service through sharing her testimony and faith in her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, never doubting His love for her. Her actions and words will continue to inspire those around her forever.
Kathy was blessed to be able to be a stay at home mom while her children were young, and sacrificed much because she so strongly understood the eternal importance of motherhood. Later, when the children were older, she began working at Sandy Valley School where she worked for several years in several different capacities. She loved the school children and served them and her community in many ways, many of which have gone unknown over the years. She will be greatly missed by all those she associated with.
Kathy loved crafts and baking, both of which she excelled at. She also loved nature, flower gardening, sci-fi movies and teasing and sometimes embarrassing her husband and children (which they all actually loved and will miss).
Kathy is survived by her husband Shane; son, Ryan and daughter-in-law, Katherine; daughter, Kristina; son, David; son, Adam; parents, Verl and Joyce Curtis; sister, Brenda Blaisure (Mike); brother, Russell Curtis (Heather O'Brien); sister, Paul Green (Wade); and many nephews, nieces, cousins aunts and uncles. She was preceded in death by son Scott (1997).
Services will be held Saturday, February 18th, 2017 at the Sandy Valley LDS Church building, 2700 Jade Ave., Sandy Valley, Nevada. Viewing at 1pm, services following 2pm. Burial will take place the following Saturday February 25th, 2017, Murray City Cemetery, Utah, next to her beloved son, Scott.
