Johnny McKay was born to Charlie and Julie McKay April 02, 1944, in Franklinton, Louisiana. He was the youngest of seven children and was spoiled rotten by his parents and siblings. He graduated from Washington Paris High School where he played basketball and excelled in his studies. Growing up and even through adulthood he loved all sports, but his true love was golf.
In 1963 Johnny moved to California for a better life and more opportunities. On June 27, 1965, Johnny married his beautiful wife Lucy Jean and to this union four children were born Johnny Terell McKay, Charles Andre McKay, Kathy Terese McKay, and Sheronda Lakeia McKay. He loved his family and he truly enjoyed taking us on camping trips, fishing, amusement parks and playing golf with his sons. When we were altogether, he was in his happy place telling stories about his youth, sharing his wisdom, and laughing and loving every moment spent with his family.
Johnny was always a hardworking man over his career he worked at Buffum’s Department store, Apex Companies, Max Factor, Hughes Aircraft and UCLA where he retired. He worked tirelessly for his family until he lost his sight due to diabetes.
Johnny joined Gospel Memorial C.O.G.I.C under the leadership of Bishop Joe L. Ealy where gave his life to the Lord and served his church faithfully as usher for many years. While living in Las Vegas he joined Restoration Church under the leadership of Pastor Romone Jones where he was affectionately known as “Dec” by the members until his untimely death.
