On Thursday, June 26, 2014, JOHN JOSEPH WITKOWSKI went to be with our Lord. Carolyn, his loving wife of more than 52 years, and his daughter, Sheri, were by his side. Born on March 27, 1924, to the late Jan and Anna Witkowski, Polish immigrants, in Fall River, Mass., John spent his early years attending St. Stanislaus Parochial School and B.M.C. Durfee High School. He joined the U.S.Army/Aircorp and was awarded a Purple Heart and other designations. Following his honorable discharge, John enrolled at Boston University and earned his BS degree in BA. In 1962, he relocated to Las Vegas and was employed in the accounting field; ultimately with the Clark County School District, one of the largest school districts in the Country. When John retired in 1986, his position was that of Director of Accounting at the School District. He and his wife truly enjoyed traveling around the world, and they did quite a lot of it, especially cruising. John was very active in youth sports, working with young boys in Pop Warner football, officiating football and basketball at high schools and middle schools. He was active with many organizations and formerly served as Director and/or Officer of the Polish American Social Club of Las Vegas, Silver State Schools Credit Union, and he held memberships in National Football Foundation, Southern Nevada Officials Assn, Heritage Sq. HOA and many others. John served as State Commander of the Polish American Veterans of Massachusetts, Commissioner of Officials for the Southern Nevada Officials Assn. and most recently was inducted into the CCSD Coaches Hall of Fame. John was also instrumental in the establishment of credit unions in Poland. John’s survivors include his wife, Carolyn A (Frain) Hunt Witkowski; daughters Sheri A Witkowski, Las Vegas; Diane Sparks, MA; Joan Adams, NY and Janet Maloney, RI; sons John J Witkowski, NJ and Barry W Hunt, Henderson, 19 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and many grand dogs. Visitation and Funeral services will be held on July 12 at St. Viator Catholic Community, 2461 E. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas. Visitation is scheduled from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm, with the Mass to be at 12:30 pm. A casual reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, any donations may be made to the Nevada SPCA (NVSPCA.org) or Nathan Adelson Hospice (NAH.org). Palm Mortuary, S. Eastern handled arrangements.
