Elder James Bernard Wiley was born at home September 18, 1948 in Marks, Mississippi to the late Pastor Tommy and Alvania (Boyd) Wiley. He went home to be with the Lord on November 24, 2019. James (71) passed away at home peacefully in Las Vegas, Nevada surrounded by his loving wife and caregiver (Janet Wiley), children, and extended family.
He accepted Christ at an early age under his father’s leadership of St. James Church of God In Christ in Como, Mississippi.
James attended Patton Lane High School in Batesville, Mississippi graduating class of 1967. After graduation he moved to Chicago for two years and then headed west for California. It was in California where James met Janet Crane at Deliverance Tabernacle Church of God In Christ in its primitive stage located on Fair Oaks and Montana. He was a faithful and active member of Deliverance Tabernacle in Pasadena, Ca under the leadership of the Late Dr. C. L. Turrentine, Ph.D. He served as Assistant Pastor for over 43 years. It was his honor to serve the people of God. He accepted every opportunity that allowed him to preach, pray, or fellowship with the saints.
James and Janet married March 01, 1975. Their union was blessed with three children. He was a dedicated husband and loving father.
James loved playing softball and volleyball games with his extended family (at the Woods, Howard’s, and Crane family functions). Other interest included gardening, camping, attempting to play the guitar, ministry, and traveling to his favorite address: 102 Booker T Street, Batesville, MS (Dad’s house).
For over 40 years, James was a Foreman in a small manufacturing plant of playground equipment known as LA Steelcraft.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers John A. Wiley (Frog), David Wiley and a Sister-In-Law Donna Marie Crane.
James is survived by his devoted wife Janet L. Wiley, one daughter Antoinette Wiley, and two sons James Leveal and Justin Wiley. Three grandchildren; Kaiden Leveal Wiley, Ma’Kai Wiley, and Caiyo Wiley all of Las Vegas, Nevada. In addition, four brothers and four sisters: Tommy Lee Wiley (Effie) of Forrest City, AR; Essie B. McKinney (John) of Courtland, MS; Gladys Flowers (Robert) of Memphis, TN; Lorean Norwood (Rufus) of Courtland, MS; Jonathan Wiley (Winnie) of Memphis, TN; Lee E. Wiley of Courtland, MS; Johnny B. Wiley (Dianne) of Batesville, MS; and Dorothy Ballard (Jerry) of Batesville, MS. He also leaves to cherish his memories his Father-In-Law and Mother-In-Law Charles and Myrtle Crane; his Brothers-In-Law Danny, Anthony, Andre, and Derrick Crane; plus a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, god-children, relatives and friends.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
