James F. Cunningham (Jim) transitioned from life to his eternal home on August 10, 2023, in Las Vegas, Nevada. Jim Cunningham was born August 30,1930 to Joseph and Edna Ellis Cunningham, of Council Bluffs, Iowa. He attended Ruwe Elementary School and Thomas Jefferson High School in Council Bluffs, graduating in 1948. He played tuba in the high school band. He enrolled at Creighton University and took evening accounting courses.
He was active in Boy Scouts and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. As an assistant Scout Leader he attended the National Jamboree in Valley Forge with his troop. As an Explorer Scout Leader, he took a group to the National Jamboree in California.
Jim worked for several years in the office of Cohoe Lumber Company in Council Bluffs and then spent 42 years at ConAgra Foods in Omaha and Fremont, retiring as manager of the Fremont Plant in 1995.
He married Marilyn Waugh of Valley, Nebraska, in 1955, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They were blessed with the births of Douglas Scott and Cindy Jo.
In 1959, ConAgra transferred Jim to Fremont, Nebraska, where they resided until 2019.
Jim was a member of the Fremont Rotary Club for 49 years and charter member of the Pathfinder Barbershop Chorus for 46 years. He was a member of the Community of Christ and served as pastor of the church in Fremont for many years.
He was blessed with two grandchildren, Nathan James and Michelle Ann Cunningham.
He loved camping and spent many days camping with his children and grandchildren. He was a charter member of the Elkhorn Valley Sam's Camping Club and camped monthly with the group for 15 plus years. He and Marilyn travelled the country in their Fifth Wheel and shared many memories.
He was a Nebraska football fan and also enjoyed playing tennis.
In 2019, Jim and Marilyn moved to North Las Vegas, Nevada. They became an active part of the Community of Christ there. He loved serving in the church.
Survivors include his wife Marilyn, son Doug (Jean) of Sioux City, Iowa; daughter Cindy Adkins (Mike) of Las Vegas; grandson Nathan (Becky) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; granddaughter Michelle Cunningham of Sioux City; brothers in law Harlan Waugh of Fremont, Nebraska, and Myron Plambeck of Indianapolis, Indiana; sisters in law Elaine Jung of Mason, Ohio, Marjorie Plambeck of Indianapolis, and Marilyn Waugh of Valley, Nebraska. Survivors also include many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on August 26, 2023, at Dugan Funeral Home in Fremont, Nebraska, with Evangelist Tim Arnold and Elder Cindy Arnold officiating. Memorials may be made in his memory to the Community of Christ in Fremont or Las Vegas.
