Hilary Haines Bockstanz died April 29, 2011 from lung cancer with complications of pneumonia. Hilary was born in Whitefish, Montana 2/28/52. Hilary was preceded in death by her mother, Sue Smartt Haines and father, Roger Wilson Haines. Hilary is survived by her loving husband Doug Bockstanz, her sister Carol Sue Nickerson, brother-in-law James Nickerson, nephew Kyle Nickerson and niece Whitney Nickerson.
Hilary Bockstanz was employed by the University of Nevada Las Vegas as Director of Employee Relations and Staff Development and was considered by many to be an expert in her field. Hilary claims the secret to her success has been the ability to find the humor in situations, a willingness to listen for deeper understanding and the iron will to be creative. Hilary leaves behind many friends at UNLV, U of U Salt Lake City, Santa Rosa, Ca., Washington, Michigan and numerous other states as Hilary travelled widely.
Although Hilary spent time as the Vice President of Human Resources for a financial institution located in Anchorage, Alaska, the majority of Hilary’s experience has been in the public sector. Hilary spent nearly seven (7) years working for Atlantic Richfield and Rockwell International, both prime contractors to the U.S. Department of Energy at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation in southeastern Washington.
Hilary’s academic credentials include a B.S, Degree (Cum Laude) from Washington State University in Pullman, Washington, a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Seattle University in Seattle, Washington, and a Paralegal Certificate from the Duquesne University School of Law in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Hilary also holds the designation of Senior Professional in Human Resource Management (SPHR) from the Society of Human Resource Management.
Hilary loved to travel the U.S and Europe. Hilary was an avid snow skier and licensed aircraft pilot. Hilary will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.
