Gloria Jean Poindexter was born to Felix and Ethel Lee Poindexter on July 31, 1938, in Shreveport, Louisiana. When Gloria was about 5 years old, the Poindexter’s moved to Oakland, California in 1944 where Gloria and her three sisters Mary, Audrey Faye, and Charlesetta were raised. She went on to graduate from McClymonds High School in Oakland, and later received a CNA degree from Laney College, also in Oakland.
Gloria married Luther Shavers of Oakland and reared five children: the twins Rhonda and Lonnie Shavers, Keith Edmonds, Carleton Wade and Luther Jr. In 1969, she married Robert Blackwell who was in the Navy, thereby taking the moniker of "Glory B". In 1970, Gloria dedicated her life to Jehovah and was baptized in November 1971. In 1984 she moved to Stockton, California until becoming a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada in 2017. Gloria remained a faithful servant to Jehovah until her last days despite ill health.
Gloria loved music, playing card games, socializing with friends and family, dancing, singing, traveling and cooking. She once won a car for her legendary BBQ sauce.
Gloria outlived two husbands and two of her sons Lonnie and Keith of Denver, Colorado, and is survived by her remaining three children, Rhonda and Carleton of Stockton, Ca., and Luther of Las Vegas, Nv.; 12 grandchildren, Roderick, Rochelle, Racquel, Raniqca, Erika, Raven, Martin, Monica, Devon, Jordan, Jalen, and Nyah; five great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, other relatives and countless friends. She will be greatly missed.
