Gary James Morehead

Gary James Morehead, 62, passed May 15, 2010. A 38 year resident of Nevada, he was born in Manhattan, Kansas February 23, 1948 to Wilson and Audra Morehead. After earning a bachelor's degree from Kansas State University in Agricultural Engineering he entered the US Air Force becoming a decorated fighter pilot retiring as Captain having flown 73 missions in Vietnam. He continued his education obtaining a master's degree from Colorado State in Public Administration. After retiring from the military he became a successful general contractor and was a devoted husband and father who considered his family his greatest accomplishment. Gary died as he lived, with courage, and dignity after a long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by love as he was called to his next mission with family and friends at his side. He is survived by his adoring wife Sheila (Matherly) Morehead, children Michael, Christian, Anya and Mark, and brothers, Jerry, Larry and Joe of Kansas. Visitation with a Rosary service to follow is from 3-5 p.m. Sunday the 23rd at Palm Mortuary, Jones/Oakey. A funeral mass will be held Monday May 24th at 10 a.m. St Joseph Husband of Mary Catholic Church with grave side service to follow at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Gary's favorite charities; VFW and the Arthritis Foundation.
