It is hard to believe Bernice has been gone a whole year.  She was a person with a beautiful and generous heart.  She will always be missed.

Flo was part of our Tuesday afternoon knit/crochet class unti the library shut down, her laughter and smile was infectious.  I will miss this wonderful woman

I met Ms Flo through the Salvation Army in 2012.  She is one of the most beautiful souls I have come across.  I always looked forward to seeing her at Sunday services.  Her kindness and love for everyone shined every time she smiled.  I carry many sweet memories and I hope I can share them with her when we meet again.  Adios Ms Flo, until we meet again.

Miss Florence, also known as Miss Flo to many of us, was the epitome of what a lady is.  She was active with the Salvation Army in Pahrump.  If she missed a church service without letting anyone know in advance, we knew she wasn't feeling good.  Another way to put that - she could be counted on to be in church service every Sunday.  She was gentle and yet firm - letting her opinions be known among friends.  As her pastor, I looked forward to the talks we would have.  In a relatively short time, I learned a lot from her.  

We would talk about a lot more than biblical themes.  We discussed some of the hardships she had as a young African-American in the pre-civil rights era.  We talked about her Native American heritage.  We talked about family and her desire for each one to walk with Christ.  We talked about my family.  When I  was raising my granddaughter for the first 5 months of her life, Florence was right there with grandmotherly advice.  When I expressed surprise that my granddaughter had little to no skin pigment despite her father being very dark complexioned, she gave my wife and I assurance and advice for the future.  (My granddaughter is 1/2 African-American, 1/4 Korean, 1/4 mix Native American/White.)  Florence was a very important part of granddaughter's early life.

My wife and I went to the same gym she did.  She was constantly lifting my wife up as Lori went about her exercises, "I'm not losing weight, it doesn't seem to be making a difference."  Miss Flo would quietly encourage her and it was a great boon to my wife.  She would talk to me and encourage me as well.  I looked forward to those early morning periods between Sundays when Miss Flo and I could converse.

Before I took the positions as Director of Social Services and as pastor, I heard about Florence from my predecessor.  Yesterday, I talked to some of those who are no longer in Pahrump, we all shared good memories and how much she was loved.

My deepest sympathy to all of the family of Florence Henderson.  All of  my life, I knew her as Bernice and it was only late in life that I discovered her real name was Florence.  She was a beloved cousin and dear friend.  I pray that the memories of her beautiful life will comfort her sons, grandchildren and siblings.  She along with her generous spirit will be sorely missed.

I knew Flo from the local gym.  I watched the door around the time she was due to walk in, I couldn't wait for the conversation we would have that day before she jumped onto the elliptical machine.  She was always doing great,  happy to be 
there and visit with all the friends she had there. We would joke that the real reason to go to the gym was the comradery. 
Rest in peace Flo,  you will be missed by so  many.

Flo was a wonderful lady, really enjoyed talking to her at the gym.  She is truly missed.
