James M. Jones, DDS, lifelong resident of Las Vegas passed away peacefully on March 10, 2018. Jim was born at home on November 27, 1932 in Las Vegas, Nevada to James H. Jones and Exa A. Lowe. He attended Fifth Street Grammar School and graduated from Las Vegas High School in 1950. Jim attended East Los Angeles City College for one year before enlisting in the Naval Reserves and beginning his dental career as a Navy Dental Technician. He returned to LA after his discharge before going on to attend Brigham Young University. After graduating from the University of Washington Dental School in 1960, Jim returned to his hometown where he began practicing and became known as “the Dentist’s Dentist” for over 40 years. He served as the President of both Clark County and State Dental Societies, and as Chairman of the State Board of Dental Examiners. He also served as Chairman of the Las Vegas Taxi Cab Authority, and on boards for the Las Vegas Housing Authority, Water District, and Health District. Jim worked hard and played harder teaching his children to do the same. Most weekends you would find him and his kids snow skiing or water skiing, and sometimes both in the same weekend with a Rebel Game in between. He became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints when he was 15 years old. He loved his service with the youth and in his later years as a Temple Ordinance Worker. He had a strong testimony and love of the Gospel. He is survived by his wife Evangeline Chen-Jones and her children, his children Chonie Marshall (Robert), Cindy Nicholls (Max), Jim Jr. (Melanie), Cheryl Frischknecht, their mother Barbara Burton Jones, 14 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 6-8:30 pm on Friday, March 16, 2018 at the Palm Southwest Mortuary 7979 W. Warm Springs Road. Funeral Service will be Saturday, March 17, at 1pm at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (1801 South Monte Cristo Way). Family viewing 12-12:45 preceding services. Private interment will be at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.
